Das Anwesen...

"The Estate or The Homeplace." That is the literal translation of this German phrase, yet its deeper meaning is a warm invitation to hospitality - "We welcome you to our home."
Das Anwesen (Dahs Ahn-va-zen) is a place of quiet elegance, first class service, and old-fashioned pride in providing both to you.

A Very Special Ambience...

Das Anwesen is nestled in a grove of majestic oaks on the historic Karbach Ranch which was established shortly after German emigrants first settled here in 1844. Feast on the fresh Hill Country air and the enchanting beauty of Bluebonnets and other Texas wildflowers. Revel in the quiet solitude of the grounds as you stroll beneath a cooling canopy of shade trees. Songbirds, rabbits and grazing deer graciously share their domain and round out the country atmosphere.

The main house was designed and decorated by well-known Texas historian and decorators, W.S. Bill Dillen and Nan Dillen. The interior of the home is filled with fine antiques, including many handmade Texas originals. Near the main house are the c. 1850 Kraft log cabin, and our newest facility which includes not only living quarters, but an Events Center, and Texas' only private Pharmacy Museum.
